$1,500 to Impact 100 families in 15 days
A few of my more avid readers may remember me talking on numerous occasions about my work with GlobeMed. The Rhodes College chapter is partnered with a GRASS roots organization in Nicaragua called AMOS, which works to bring primary health care to impoverished rural communities.
This last week intense tropical storms have flooded many of the communities that I had a wonderful chance to work with in 2010. They have been cut off from the rest of the world for days and their crops have been destroyed by all the rain. Right now we are just trying to raise some money to send for supplying food for some of the families affected by all the rain, but in the coming days as the water subsides there are numerous other problems that will need to be addressed. These farmers’ source of income and sustenance has been destroyed and some may be displaced by the government. Also all the standing water will become a breeding ground for mosquitos, which could carry many dangerous diseases such as malaria.
These communities have a long road to recovery so I encourage everyone to please help if they can. The link above is where you can learn more and donate. If you have any questions contact me.
Also sorry I haven’t blogged in a while, I have been mainly busy figuring out what the next steps are for us and our chapter and I have also been busy with the ever-present senior seminar. Thanks to everyone who reads and even more to those who help out
