As part of a new blogging thing, me and some of my friends are going to try and eat at a new restaurant every week that we think brings something new to the Memphis community. We are trying to limit ourselves to places that pretty unique in their tastes and can’t be found everywhere.
This week we started at Casablanca. Probably one of the only middle eastern restaurants I know of in town, which sucks because I like it so much, but it is also one of the best middle eastern places I’ve eaten at ever, so I guess where our city lacks in quantity, it does have quality.
Despite it’s outside appearance, the inside is pretty nice, nice enough for me to regret wearing hangover clothes anyway. When we got to our table we were greeted by the waiter/owner of the restaurant with his thick accent. He was hilarious and very knowledgable of the menu. We started out with hummus and everyone got the house honey and ginger sweet tea. The sweat tea was really amazing, you can buy the ingredients there at the restaurant to make yourself, which I did not do, but the mixture of ginger and honey was surprisingly delicious.
The hummus was also some of the best hummus I have had. The olive oil was “imported from the holy land by a relative of the owners” and was really strong. This was real legit olive oil that actually tastes like it is made from olive oil instead of some weird extra virgin stuff. The olive oil made the hummus and quite honestly made the meal.
I also had the falafel which was equally as good, especially with their house sauce and of course more olive oil.
