Finally catching up about school and everything else
Hey everyone,
Sorry I haven’t blogged in what seems like a million years. Classes and GlobeMed are my life right now. I haven’t even been able to continue my work with Refugee Empowerment Program because I am split between the other two things. Which is killing me.
Anyway, it is currently Parent’s Weekend and I have been busy hanging out with my parents and also working on the GlobeMed Silent Art Auction we have every year. This year was executed really well, but we did not have as much art work as last year, so we did have some minor set backs. Over all it went fine, but I am personally disappointed in various aspects. It’s a learning process and could have gone way worse so I am not too worried.
My parents brought new furniture for the house which was nice and they have also been buying me groceries and other things (like tons of photos from the auction). Lucked out big time and one of the better things about parents weekend.
Speaking of food! Two major updates on my culinary life: 1) I am trying out vegetarianism. It’s actually not as hard as you would think especially in a pretty eclectic area such as Midtown Memphis. 2) I am going on restaurant adventures all over town and will be blogging about the place here as I strive to be even more of a foodie than I already am. 3) (that’s way more than two…) I am also trying to cook more! So whenever I find a recipe that seems to work guess where I’m sharing it? Also for any vegetarians out there this could be a good resource.
Now that food and my weekend is marginally out of the way, I should write about my classes as well.
My general class schedule goes
Global EcoPolitics - Monday and Wednesday 2:00-3:15
Spanish American Culture and Literature - Tuesday and Thursday 12:30-1:45
InterAmerican Relations -Tuesday and Thursday 2:00-3:15
Senior Seminar - Wednesdays 6:00-8:30
Model UN - Tuesdays 6:00-8:00
I know at first glance you see that I never have a class before noon and do in fact have a three day weekend. It’s not worth it. This schedule is really hard. Senior Seminar is always hanging over my head. I am not nearly as far in it as I need to be, but my general topic for the thesis will be development in Latin America and I want to look at how political history, structural inequity, and possibly history of colonialism has affected underdevelopment. I am still in the beginning stages so we shall see.
My global ecopolitics class is by far my favorite. We not only talk about environmental politics but developmental politics, sustainable design, population, demography, and even eventually urban planning. The class is so interesting and I wish I had looked at a class like this earlier.
InterAmerican relations is a typical IS class on relations between US and Latin America. No surprise there but still interesting. Hispanoamerican lit is also really interesting and begins with even Mayan and Incan writings which is way cool. We are moving up with writings from Columbus and keep going all the way to modern time. I love indigenous central american culture and I feel like I have personally not studied it enough as I should. Anyway this class linguistically is a little unchallenging but the material is what’s up.
Anyways, glad I could finally blog about classes. I will write more about my senior seminar as I work on it and develop it and look for my food adventure stuff, usually known as #whatimeating
Peace
